We’ve got some ginormous news: BFUK Fynbos is the featured gin in this month’s edition of The Gin Box – South Africa’s original craft gin club.
That means gin lovers across the country are about to unbox a bottle of BFUK and (hopefully) mutter, “Well this is BFUK” while they sip.
How The Gin Box works (and why this is such a big deal)
If you haven’t heard of it yet, The Gin Box is kind of like a subscription box – but instead of books or socks, you get premium South African craft gin delivered to your door.

Each month, the team hand-picks one small-batch gin to showcase, and curates a box around it with:
-
A full-size bottle of the month’s gin
-
Bespoke cocktail recipes and distiller’s notes
-
Experimental garnish suggestions
-
A selection of gourmet snacks and mixers that bring the flavour to life
This month, that gin is ours. (Cue mild screaming.)
What makes this moment so special
Every story has a beginning, and ours started with T‑shirts. Back in November 2018, our mentor Deon Behrens challenged us to design something bold for his Long Street shop, Modern & Tribal. We knew nothing about fashion, but we did know four letters that felt right: B.F.U.K. – Bold. Free. Unique. Kind. Before long, our tee designs were screen‑printed locally and selling exclusively in his store.
Then lockdown hit. Deon’s shop went online-only, and our T‑shirt dream stalled. We flirted with mugs (“too tame”) and even toyed with coffee cups (“yawn”). But one evening over a glass of rationed wine (remember those days?), we cracked a joke about launching our own gin… and that “ha!” turned into action. By January 2022, we’d found the perfect distillery partner, refined our recipe, and revamped our branding.
Fast forward to June 2022, when we bottled the first batch of BFUK Fynbos Gin – and now, in July 2025, it’s the star of The Gin Box. From screen‑printed tees to hand‑crafted gin, seeing BFUK Fynbos land in gin lovers’ hands nationwide is a full‑circle moment we never saw coming.
For everyone unboxing BFUK this month…
We hope you taste the story. The scrappy beginnings. The many, many arguments over the exact shade of that green label.
And most of all, we hope you enjoy the gin. Mix it, stir it, sip it straight. Pair it with something fancy or just open a packet of crisps and call it a night. No judgment here.
But if you’re the posting type, we’d love to see how you drink your BFUK. Tag us @bfuk_gin and show us your cocktails, your garnishes, your “just opened the box” reactions. We’ll be watching (and probably blushing).
